Subject:Elyzabeth Musser's Gene Clark Homesyte
Hello to you all. I'm letting you know that my Gene website got "thrown out" (all geocities free websites did), and that's why you havn't been able to find it. I will be rebuilding it. My son, who works and Mendocino Coast Network (online servece providers), told me I get a free web "page" because I've got dsl. So that's where it will be. The address will be: http://ewarp9.mymcn.org/ It will be a while, but it will be "ressurected". I'm in the process of digging up all my pix, text, html doc.s, etc., to put it all together again. I'm also redesiging some of it. It'll be in some cases the same, with drafts for my autobiography, and also quite redesigned. Until later, HAPPY HOLIDAYS & NEW YEAR. Si Lots of Love, Sincerely, Elyzabeth "Lyz" Musser, a.k.a. "ewarp9"

Subject:NPR's top 50 Great Voices
I saw this morning that National Public Radio will be starting a new series in January 2010 on 50 Great Voices. They are looking for suggestions from listeners (GreatVoices@npr.org). SInce I consider Gene Clark to be the voice of angels singing, I suggested him as one of the great unrecognized American voices. I listed representative songs that illustrate is peotry and voice, and links to live online links to live performances, including Gypsy Rider (with Carla Olson), and Knockin' on Heaven's Door and Mr. Tambourine Man (both from his performances at the Bottom Line with Roger McGuinn in 1978). It would probably be useful for the reviewers to hear additional suggestions so that a greater audience can appreciate what a great artist he was.

The energy in Toad Hall that night was tremendous. When he broke into "No Other," the place erupted in cheers and the dance floor filled quickly. People shouted out "no other" along with Gene; I remember few places that have been filled with that kind of unbridled joy. Earlier, Gene had said between songs how glad he was that people were dancing to the music. "We've just played in The City and the 'coolies' there just sit on their hands." He did a song I had never heard and didn't hear again until the Ebbets Field set surfaced--"Daylight Line." I didn't get to stay for a third set (I lived in Ukiah, about a 2 1/2 mile drive from Toad Hall, and the people I went with had baby sitting issues), but I heard a woman talk about how the show the night before had ended. "They turned out all the lights, except for a few candles, and Gene played "She Darked The Sun" by himself with his guitar." I've been to hundreds of concerts in my lifetime. This was almost thirty-four years ago, but it sticks in my mind with great clarity.

Subject:Concert Memories
I'd like to start a discussion where people can talk about the time or times they saw Gene perform. I saw him several times, but my favorite was in December of 1975 in a small club called Toad Hall, set back from the road and surrounded by redwoods, about three miles west of Mendocino. I had moved from San Diego about six months earlier, and I was pretty depressed being away from life-long friends and the ability to see good live music acts. I was, quite frankly, floored to see a small add in the Mendocino Grapevine saying he was playing in the upcoming weekend. Gene was with a group called the Roadmasters, I believe, and they opened with a few songs, including a nice version of Jesse Winchester's Payday. Then Gene came on with "Life's Greatest Fool" and I was basically in heaven for a about three hours. This was Gene playing in front of his friends (he lived in Albion, about a 20 minute drive from the venue), and he was in great humor throughout. I lived a long-held fantasy by talking to him for a few minutes between sets. He sort of looked into the distance as he talked, and he said he was having a great time playing for people that meant a lot to him. (cont'd)
